This photo blog will show how we installed a BlackVue DR900X-2CH Plus into a 2022 Mercedes EQS. If you're considering installing a dash cam, we recommend the Blackbox MyCar Essential Install Kit. The BlackboxMyCar Essential Install Kit comes with a circuit tester, trim remover tool, and other handy tools to make the project more manageable.
BlackboxMyCar | Dash Cam Installation: 2022 Mercedes EQS x BlackVue DR900X-2CH Plus
The BlackboxMyCar PowerCell 8 battery pack comes with multiple input cables and options. You can use the 12V power cable for a quick and easy installation. Just plug it into your vehicle's cigarette lighters socket (6A). This setup will fully allow the battery pack to charge in under 2 hours. If you are looking for a shorter charging time, i.e., you don't drive long enough for the battery to charge fully, there is a hardwire cable that you can connect to your car's fuse panel (9A) to allow the battery to reach a full charge in just under an hour.
Our technicians hardwired the dash camera battery pack to the car's fuse box for this hardwire installation.

There are typically two fuse boxes in a car. One is in the engine compartment under the hood and the other under the steering column. Some vehicles also have a fuse panel in the front passenger footwell or trunk. And if you have a Mercedes, you may also find one under the rear passenger seat. We hardwire the BlackboxMyCar PowerCell 8 battery pack for this installation.

Step 1: Locate a suitable stowaway space for the battery pack
Our technicians hardwired the dash camera battery pack to the fuse box in the rear passenger seat.
The owner of this Mercedes EQS requested a hardwire installation with a dash cam battery pack. The first thing we did was find a suitable stowaway spot for the BlackboxMyCar PowerCell 8 battery pack.
There isn’t much space available in the front of the car. Luckily, the Mercedes EQS comes with a fuse panel in the rear passenger seat, and there was ample storage space for the battery pack. The alternative is to store the battery pack in the trunk.
Step 2: Locating the correct fuse for the battery pack hardwire installation
Our technicians hardwired the dash camera battery pack to the fuse box in the rear passenger seat.
We hardwired the BlackboxMyCar PowerCell 8 battery pack to the vehicle’s fuse box on the rear passenger side for this installation. If you don't need parking mode capabilities, you can opt for a more straightforward installation using the 12V power cable and your vehicle's cigarette power socket.
The BlackboxMyCar PowerCell 8 hardwiring kit is a 2-wire cable. Connect the ACC wire to an ignition-switched fuse and the ground wire (the black wire with the C-shaped connector) to an unpainted metal bolt or stud.
Use the circuit testing in the Essential Install Kit to help you find a suitable ignition fuse for the ACC wire. You can look for the empty fuse slots or ones you can piggyback off using the add-a-fuse kit included in the Essential Install Kit. Always refer to the Fuses section in the vehicle's owner's manual to avoid fuse slots that could pertain to certain safety features within your car.
Dash Cam Tips
Ensure that the battery is set to the “HIGH” input selection to maximize the quicker charging via hardwire. A full charge from empty will take about 60 minutes.

Step 3: Mounting the BlackVue DR900X Plus front camera
The ideal place for the front camera is behind the rearview mirror.
The ideal place to mount a dash cam is behind the rearview mirror because it hides the dash cam from the driver's view to avoid any obstruction while driving.
Check how far the wiper goes because if you mount the front-facing camera above the wiper's reach, it will not have a clear vision. You don't want to have your dash cams installed in an area outside of the range of your windshield wiper coverage, or on a rainy or snowy day, the camera lens will not be able to capture video. Clean the windshield from the inside of the car to ensure the camera sticks properly and to clean off any marks or smears that might affect the video quality of your footage.
Step 4: Tucking the dashcam power cable from the headliner to the battery pack
Guide the power cable along the headliner and down the A-pillar on the passenger side. Use the included trim tool to pry the headliner gently to create a gap just enough for the cable. Take your time when popping open the A-pillar. Start squeezing both sides of the A-pillar. Slide the trim removal tool underneath to pry it loose gently. We recommend running the cables down the factory wiring harness.
Once you get to the bottom of the A-pillar, continue to route the wire along the interior door trim piece through the B-pillar panel to the rear passenger seat.
Step 5: Running the rear camera connecting cable to the rear of the Mercedes EQS
Don't just run the cable under the rubber seal. Take the time to remove the B pillar cover or use a pry tool to guide the cables under the trim carefully.
Pick up the rear camera connecting cable you have routed along the headliner with the power cable and run it along the A, B, and C pillars. Remember, don’t just stuff the cable under the rubber seal because it will create a little gap that might prevent the door from sealing properly - you will get wind noise, or worse, water can seep into the car. Take your time to guide the cable under the trim - remove the B pillar covers and use the pry tool to carefully tuck the cable underneath the panel covers.
Step 6: Mounting the rear camera
Look for the hoses that connect the chassis to the liftgate. Use a long zip tie to run the rear connecting cable through it for a clean installation.
Mounting the rear camera in a vehicle with a rear liftgate does require a few extra steps. You have a couple of options for running the rear camera connecting cable to the rear windshield, depending on your available tools. Some people have cables from the C-pillar and right onto the rear windshield. While that works, you must be careful when you open and close the trunk, as the cable can get tangled up, loose, or exposed to water damage, etc.
We recommend taking the time to do it properly, through the rubber grommet between the chassis and the liftgate, so the cables are all nice and tidy - the cable will then run through the grommet and onto the rear windshield. Typically, 1 or 2 hoses connect to the liftgate, and it's best to squeeze them to check which one has more wiggle room before attempting to run the wire.
Plug the connecting cable into the rear camera and power your car to turn on the BlackboxMyCar PowerCell 8 battery pack and the BlackVue DR900X Plus. You will hear the BlackVue powerup greeting prompt. Suppose you haven't done so, download and install the BlackVue mobile app on your smartphone.
Once your BlackVue DR900X Plus is powered on, turn on WiFi on the dash cam and connect it to the dash cam using the app to check the angle of the front and rear cameras and adjust as needed.
And there you have it, a BlackVue DR900X Plus installed in a 2022 Mercedes EQS. From the outside, looking in from the front of the vehicle, the DR900X Plus front-facing and rear-facing cameras blend in well with the car.
The BlackVue DR900X Plus is the flagship 4K UHD Cloud-ready dash cam from BlackVue. It features 8MP Sony STARVIS CMOS sensors, built-in customizable motion detection, seamless app pairing, interchangable secondary cameras and the entire suite of BlackVue Over the Cloud featuers. You can also add on the optional CM100G LTE Module to enjoy hassle-free Cloud connectivity with mobile hotspot functionality.
