What’s New with BlackVue DR970X Plus Series?

If you are to be asked what your most prized possession is, and your answer is your car, you are part of the 59% of Americans who have developed a love affair with their vehicles. What this means is you only want the best for your car. You want your ride to look as clean and well-detailed as possible, you want it to be preserved and maintained in its tip-top shape, and you want it to be protected from all the potential dangers around it – from potholes, thieves, and bad drivers who could possibly harm your ride.

Now, if there’s one accessory that you should get your precious car for protection and security, that would be a dash camera. It will record the road ahead (or the traffic behind) when you are driving, or even the moments when you have to leave it parked somewhere. While there are hundreds of dash cameras available in the market, you wouldn’t wanna settle for less, would you? In this case, choose a brand that has the best features, best performance, and best quality, such as BlackVue.

In the world of dash cams, South Korean dash cam manufacturer BlackVue has been an industry leader for over 17 years. They are popularly known for their Cloud dash cams, which basically enable users to watch over their cars even when they are away – and away, we mean even when out of the country! This January 2024, BlackVue announced the launch of their most innovative dash cam model, the all-new DR970X Plus. Let’s take a look at the features, performance, and upgrades that make this the perfect dash cam for your most prized possession.

What makes the BlackVue DR970X Plus the Best Dash Cam of 2024?

See Clearly with the New Sony STARVIS 2 Sensors.

Dash cams are designed to provide evidence in the event of an incident, so the quality matters. You might have encountered incidents that could have saved thousands of dollars and energy if only there were a dash cam recording properly. If you want to protect yourself from being next, video quality is something you need to prioritize, and you can do so with the DR970X Plus.

The first feature, and probably the most important upgrade in this dash cam model, is its new image sensor, an 8MP Sony STARVIS 2 IMX 678 for the front dash camera. Previous BlackVue models only carried the first-generation Sony STARVIS sensor, which is not as excellent, especially in terms of colour and lighting. Now, the BlackVue DR970X Plus can capture vibrant and cinematic colours of the skies and surroundings even in dim and low-light settings, while also recording clear details of road signs and other cars’ license plates. If you want the best driving recorder for your car, a Sony STARVIS 2 dash cam like the DR970X Plus is the way to go. Curious about what we are talking about? Check out the sample footage

Better Lighting With New Aperture Lens.

Beyond the new image sensor, the BlackVue DR970X Plus has also been upgraded to a larger aperture F/1.7 lens. Aperture can be defined as the opening in a lens through which light passes to enter the dash camera, which captures more light for more vivid dash cam footage – highly useful when you drive or leave your car at night! Let’s face it – the sad truth is if you have a nice-looking car, the more likely you are to be eye candy not just for thieves, but also to be ticketed by the police!

If you have a dash camera like the DR970X Plus that ensures you get sufficient lighting when recording, you can have the peace of mind that your ride is protected, all day and night. Even more, the DR970X Plus can capture details even when you’re driving on highways, thanks to its 3x quicker shutter speed – perfect for those of you who enjoy driving on the fast lane!

Better Compression Technology.

No need to worry about dash cam storage, even if your BlackVue is recording 4K Ultra High Definition videos! Now, the DR970X Plus has a new file compression technology available in two options – H.265 and H.264. Now, the BlackVue DR970X Plus’ H.265 compression enables the dash cam to record at a faster rate of 60 megabits per second, capturing more detail in each frame. Beyond that, users can also choose H.264 for smaller files, offering flexibility based on their preferences and storage requirements.

If you prefer high-quality video compression while maintaining a low bit rate, go for H.264. Now if you prefer less bandwidth, let’s say when you have slower internet connectivity, H.265 can transmit the same quality. You have the freedom to choose what’s convenient for you.

Upgraded 512GB storage

Speaking of storage, another upgrade is the BlackVue DR970X Plus now supports 512GB SD cards, which is a significant increase from the previous 256GB limit. With the previous model, a front-and-rear BlackVue DR970X can only record 33 hours and 25 minutes in normal recording at 256 GB. Now, the BlackVue DR970X Plus front-and-rear can record up to 66 hours and 54 minutes with 512GB. With this micro SD card upgrade, you can get enough space to preserve a long history of recordings, avoiding the need for frequent file management and overwrites.

New Dash Cam Models

If you have multiple cars, or if you use them for different purposes, the new BlackVue DR970X Plus also has a variety of models for you. Whether you wish to prioritize capturing the road ahead, the traffic behind, what’s inside the car, or want to stay connected wherever you are, the BlackVue DR970X Plus now offers a variety of dash cam models.

For a front-only dash cam, the BlackVue DR970X Plus 1-channel is the way to go. Looking for front and rear cameras? The BlackVue DR970X Plus 2-CH and the BlackVue DR970X Plus Box 2-CH variants are for you. If you drive a ride-sharing vehicle, or want a witness inside your car – best for RV and pet owners – the BlackVue DR970X Plus 2-CH IR and the BlackVue DR970X Plus 2-CH IR Box with tamper-proof case will surely provide you with the holistic peace of mind you need. Want to get the most of the Cloud, while having your internet connectivity built-in? Choose the BlackVue DR970X Plus 2CH LTE dash cam!

Smarter Connectivity

As we mentioned earlier, BlackVue is popular for its Cloud capabilities. For example, if you leave your car parked in the street, and suddenly, someone hits or keys your vehicle, you will be able to receive notifications in real-time with the DR970X Plus. This is suitable for car owners who desire urgency, giving you immediate access to footage even when you’re still miles away from your car!

Moreover, BlackVue made connecting a second camera system to your Cloud network easier than ever. With the new BlackVue DR970X Plus, you can link additional camera systems to a single BlackVue built-in LTE or LTE module DR970X Plus dash cam over the internet. This simplifies your Cloud connection and makes the system an excellent alternative for the always-connected 360 configuration.

Plus, upgrading is just as simple! The power cable and rear connecting cable are the exact same as previous X series models, and will be an easy swap out for any users. On top of that, the rear camera itself is the same as DR970X and DR770X models, and is fully backwards compatible.
