Review: Matrack Dash Cam

Matrack Dash Cam is an AI-enabled, mobile asset tracking dash camera built for commercial use. It is a dual-facing camera that provides both in-cab and on-road video footage, capturing 1080p full HD-quality videos, so you can cover everything without missing anything that can serve as crucial evidence.

In terms of recording, the AI powered dash cam has the option to use up to 5 cameras to give the most comprehensive remote visual of the truck - front, rear, sides and driver facing.

How can the Matrack Dash Cam be beneficial for my driver?

To closely monitor your driver, the Matrack Dash Cam is built with an AI-sensor in its camera which can detect the driver if they are drowsy, texting, using their phone, or not paying attention to the road.

Once a distraction is detected, it will then send audible alerts to your driver so that they can refocus and drive safely - minimizing the chances of accidents.

What other Advanced Driver Assist Systems does Matrack have?

Apart from these, Matrack offers safety features, such as lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and D.U.I Alerts.

Through lane departure warnings, the dash cam sends an alert to the driver if they are diverging from their lane and could impact the other vehicle. On the other hand, there’s forward collision warning that allows the driver to avoid impacting the venue in front. It sends them an alert if they are getting too close to other cars.

Matrack also sends notifications once harsh braking, acceleration, sharp turns and speeding are detected.

I’m a fleet manager. Can this dash cam help me with my data gathering and reports?

Similar to all dash cams, the goal of Matrack is to make the business more efficient not just for the driver, but also for the fleet manager, and business owner.

Through its system, you can download the comprehensive reports from the portal which will help you determine the driver’s needs. It will also show where they are lacking so that you can take the necessary steps to improve them, and enhance the driver training programs you may have in the future.

More importantly, the Matrack Dash Cam also has additional features like real-time location updates, driver driving behavior reports, monitoring vehicle health, and Geofencing that will help you with your overall operations.

Does the Matrack Dash Cam also have a Cloud?

Yes, it does. The recorded video of the event is uploaded to the cloud for analysis. The cloud AI classifies the video based on severity and tags other risky behaviors, like stop-sign violation.

Is the whole system similar to a typical dash cam?

It is important to note that Matrack dash cam is a specialized fleet surveillance system for commercial vehicles. Before you can use a Matrack, you have to go through a process with their company first, which will involve registering your dash cam, installing your dash cam in the vehicle, and calibrating the features.

You don’t get it all at once.

Is getting a Matrack Dash Cam a one-time payment?

Unfortunately, unlike purchasing a dash cam, Matrack will require you to pay for the device, and pay another for the subscription - which will be charged to you per month. If you’re looking for a cost-effective way, then this system might be something that could break the bank.

Review: BlackVue DR750X-2CH Truck Plus Dash Cam

BlackVue is a reputable name in the dash cam and car surveillance scene. From passenger cars, to commercial vehicles, BlackVue has a solid dash cam carefully engineered to deliver all types of driving demands. Specially designed for trucks, BlackVue introduced the DR750X-2CH Truck Plus.

With an upgraded Full HD Sony STARVIS image sensor, the DR750X 2-CH Truck Plus records at a wide 139° view angle at a higher 60 frames per second to give you the smoothest image quality under any light. With twice the number of frames per second, motion blur is greatly reduced, giving you important license plate detail even in fast-moving objects.

The external rear camera has a 120° angle of view and 2.1MP CMOS sensor augmented by 6 IR LEDs. The luminosity sensor detects ambient brightness, activating automatically the IR lights for clarity in total darkness.

How does this BlackVue differ from the other non-truck dash cameras?

BlackVue understands the role of commercial vehicles for the fleet - it’s to stay on the go, whatever the weather conditions and setting may be.

Because of this, they built the DR750X 2-CH Truck Plus with a rugged metal waterproof casing to increase resistance. The external rear camera is built to withstand most weather conditions as well. This model also comes with a 15m high-quality waterproof coaxial cable, long enough for trucks, trailers, and most large vehicles.

Can this dash cam record footage even when it’s parked for a long time?

Yes, it can. With advanced parking mode technology, your DR750X 2-CH Truck Plus automatically records any bump or physical movement on the vehicle when left unattended.

It’s not just an ordinary parking mode - it also offers buffered recording that includes the few seconds before and after the triggered event, so you get the complete picture of an incident.

The DR750X-2CH Plus comes with the BlackVue Hardwiring Kit so you can connect the dash cam to your car's fuse panel and your BlackVue will go into Parking Mode when you leave your vehicle, without the need for additional accessories. Of course, for extended recording times we still strongly recommend using the Power Magic Ultra Battery B-130X or the PowerCell 8 Battery Pack.

The Matrack Dash Cam has a Cloud. Does BlackVue also have one?

Yes, and the features are definitely better. BlackVue Over the Cloud is a suite of innovative ‘connected’ features that unlocks the true power of your DR750X Truck Plus and remotely connects you with your vehicle which is very useful for fleet.

With this connectivity, you have an instant companion that can watch over your car, inform you immediately of incidents such as impacts through Push Notifications to your Apple or Android phone. That saves you time, and manpower as well.

If you want to check on your drivers’ location and activity, you just have to connect to your DR750X Truck Plus dash cam anytime, from anywhere, and check on your vehicle with Remote Live View.

Does this BlackVue also generate reports for my fleet?

Yes, you can actually monitor progress and access location data, GPS logs and Driving Reports courtesy of the dash cam’s real time Live Tracking feature. Moreover, you can also play recorded video clips remotely and back-up important ones to the Cloud or your phone. Want to share it with your team? You can even broadcast Live to Facebook and YouTube!

Are my files safe in the BlackVue App?

With the BlackVue App, you can connect via Wi-Fi to your dashcam to retrieve videos on the spot. Our dash cam experts also like to use the app's camera Live View for easy set-up and positioning of the DR590X in the vehicle.

For those with a lot of footage for playback, the BlackVue Viewer is probably the easiest solution. Access recordings on your camera’s microSD card, simultaneously viewing front and rear camera footage, moving maps and GPS data including time, date and speed. All video clips are listed by date, time and recording mode (Normal, Parking, Event, etc.), making it simple to quickly identify and archive important footage.

Additionally, this BlackVue has the following features to ensure that every file you have is protected:

  • Scheduled Reboot: Schedule a daily automatic reboot (optional—at night by default) to minimize potential errors. Reboots happen only if the dashcam is in Parking Mode and not writing data to the microSD card.

  • Event Files Overwrite Protection: dashcams record in a loop, overwriting older files when the memory is full. BlackVue can prevent Event files (triggered manually or by impacts) overwriting. Up to fifty (50) files can be protected this way. You can choose to allow new Event files to overwrite past Event files, thus keeping the latest fifty.

  • Adaptive Format-Free File Management: this BlackVue-developed file system improves recording stability and requires less microSD card formatting.

  • SD Card Failure Alert: your BlackVue detects as soon as the microSD card fails and warns you with a “Please check SD card” voice alert.

BlackVue Truck Plus Bonus: WIFI & 4G LTE Connectivity

Here’s another reason why you would love the BlackVue Truck Plus.

With ultra fast dual-band built-in Wi-Fi & GPS, you can access and download your footage to your phone at blazing speed. You can also get location data right through your desktop or smartphone app viewer, all at the touch of a button.

What’s even more exciting is that you can connect to the free BlackVue Over the Cloud account via a third-party wireless WiFi hotspot of the dedicated LTE Connectivity Module (CM100LTE) to enjoy great features. All you need is a nano SIM card - it is compatible with SIM cards from AT&T, T-Mobile, Telus, Rogers and Bell, including their MVNOs.

Verdict: Which is the Better Companion for my Truck? BlackVue DR750X-2CH Truck Plus vs. Matrack Dash Cam

The main goal why these two cameras are built is to provide fleet and commercial trucks with convenience and efficiency. With their video recording capabilities and advanced driver alert systems, you would know how BlackVue and Matrack cares for your business.

However, since the Matrack is more of a fleet management system, it is expected to be more costly. Aside from paying from the dash cam itself, Matrack will also charge you with a monthly subscription for using their services.

On the other hand, the BlackVue DR750X-2CH Truck Plus is a premium choice, but is more budget-friendly compared to Matrack. You only pay once, yet the features such as the Sony STARVIS image sensors, Advanced Parking Mode, Cloud Connectivity, Fleet Management system like two-way communication and operational reports, Wi-Fi and 4G LTE will serve you and your fleet for the longest term possible.
