If you have purchased a Thinkware dash cam like the F70 Pro, F200 Pro, Q1000, or the Thinkware U3000, Thinkware lets you manage your dash cam right at your fingertips through the dedicated Thinkware Dash Cam Link App. In this guide, we will show you how to connect to this Wi-Fi app, while also going over the Thinkware Dash Cam Link’s features to make your Thinkware experience more convenient.
The Thinkware Dash Cam Link app is a smartphone app that is compatible with the F70 Pro, F200 Pro, Q1000, or the Thinkware U3000 You can download this for free from the App Store and Google Play.
Just like any other dash cam smartphone app, the Thinkware Dash Cam Link app allows you to review dash cam footage, download and export recorded videos to your phone, configure dash cam settings, and use a remote live view to see what’s exactly happening in your car.
To clarify, the Thinkware Dash Cam Link app differs from the Thinkware Cloud and Thinkware CONNECTED apps, as the Thinkware Cloud serves as the app for earlier models, like the U1000, and Q800 Pro, check out our Thinkware Cloud App guide here.
The Thinkware Connected App is used for remote connection features through the cloud with advanced models such as the U3000 and Q1000, check out the Thinkware CONNECTED guide here. Still, if you’re installing the Thinkware Connected app, you will have to install and use the Thinkware Dash Cam Link app first.
If you are using a Bluetooth Dash Cam like the F70 Pro, Q1000 or U3000
1. Turn on the vehicle's ignition to put your Thinkware dash cam in Continuous Recording Mode.
2. Provide the app with any necessary permissions and open the Thinkware Dash Cam Link App on your smartphone. Select the blue button that says “Dash Cam Registration”, then select your dash cam model.
3. Press the Wi-Fi Button on the camera and hold it for 3 seconds. The wifi light on the camera will flash blue.
4. Once you hear the message, select the Bluetooth Connection button in the app.
5. Wait for the camera to pair with your phone. Once finished, the camera should state “Connected to a smartphone”, and the wifi button will stay solid green.
And that’s it! Your phone will stay paired with the camera, and the connection process will be much easier in the future, as the Bluetooth allows for a seamless connection. If you encounter issues with the connection process, consider switching your phone to airplane mode.
To connect your smartphone to the Thinkware dashcam, you must establish a Wi-Fi connection between the two devices. The app will display a list of available dashcams. Press on your current dash cam model, and follow the on-screen instructions.
Turn on the vehicle's ignition to put your Thinkware dash cam in Continuous Recording Mode.
Provide the app with any necessary permissions and open the Thinkware Dash Cam Link App on your smartphone. Select the blue button that says “Dash Cam Registration”, then select your dash cam model.
Tap the WiFi button on your dash cam, the camera’s WiFi light should flash green, and the unit will give out wifi connection instructions.
Go to the wifi settings of your phone, and select your dash cam's Wi-Fi network from the list. This network name is typically prefixed with "THINKWARE" followed by a series of alphanumeric characters.
Once you tap on your dash cam's network, the app will prompt you to enter the password. The default password is usually "123456789" However, if you have changed the password previously, use your customized password.
Once done, and the phone is connected to the wifi network, return to the Thinkware Dash Cam Link App.
Reopen the Thinkware Dash Cam Link App and you will hear "Connected to a Smartphone".
If the Thinkware Wi-Fi disconnects or disappears immediately, please consider turning off your data through Airplane mode. If you see a message under the wifi network that states “no internet connection” this is fully normal, and you can continue.
Once you successfully connect your smartphone to the dash cam's Wi-Fi network, the Thinkware Dash Cam Link app will automatically pair with the device. It may take a few moments to establish the connection.
After the pairing is complete, you will be guided through the initial setup process. This involves configuring various settings such as date and time, if you’re confused about the GMT time zone you reside in, check out our timezone guide here. And with that, you’re ready to go!
At the very bottom of the Thinkware Dash Cam Link screen, you will also see three icons – Home on the leftmost part, Video Playback on the center, and the icon with four squared dots for support, app info, and network connectivity. Let’s check out the home menu first.
At the center of the screen, you see the image of your dash cam model, with three buttons beneath it, Live View, Dash Cam Settings, and Dash Cam Info.
If you click Live View, you will get real-time access to your Thinkware dashcam's footage, allowing you to view live video streaming from the camera directly on your smartphone. This feature lets you monitor your surroundings and adjust camera angles if necessary, with toggleable positioning lines to help with placement. To switch between the front and rear cameras, press the R or F buttons in the top right of the live-view, depending on what view you are currently seeing.
Live-view is a great way to ensure both the camera and app are working properly at a preliminary level.
Next, if you click Dash Cam Settings, you will be able to adjust the features and settings of your camera. Here, you can modify video resolution, adjust audio recording preferences, enable or disable parking mode, and customize sensitivity levels for impact detection, motion detection and even Advanced Driver Assist Systems.
Note that while you're going through the camera settings, the dash cam will not actively record.
Lastly, when you click Dash Cam info, you will be led to the details of your Thinkware dash cam. Through this, you can easily check for firmware updates. Note that regular firmware updates ensure that your dash cam is equipped with the latest features, performance enhancements, and bug fixes, providing an optimal user experience. This is also the place to delete your camera, and un-pair it from your phone, enabling you to connect to a different camera.
Moreover, when you return to your camera after recording in parking mode, the home menu will also show you exactly how many individual impact or motion recordings were recorded while you were away. Tap the respective icons and the app will take you straight to the exact footage where the incident has been detected!
Next to the home menu icon is the video playback menu.
When you click this, you will be led to a new page that shows the recorded footage of your Thinkware dash cam. Depending on what Thinkware dash cam configuration you have (single-channel or dual-channel), you can watch all videos under Front, Rear, and All sections. This can be sorted by file, or by day.
The videos are labelled according to what type of recording it was – whether continuous mode or parking mode. Impact notifications are labelled red, while general recordings are in blue.
When you select one of the recording modes in the top right, you'll see a list of all the files in that folder in chronological order. You may also sort the clips by front and back(F + R), to narrow down your results even further. Here, you can download the video clip to your phone's hard drive by clicking the choice symbol next to it. You can also delete individual video files off the card by clicking the edit option on the upper right. If you are unsure whether the clip in the list is the one you require, you can click it once to stream the video rather than download it.
Back to the home button, the icon with four dots will lead you to the dash cam app information. Here, you can contact the Thinkware Support and check the app’s version.
Moreover, the dash cam info also shows the model name, the dash cam name - which can be replaced, useful for fleet management), the memory size, and even the GPS information.
Earlier, we mentioned that you can access the settings by clicking the ‘Dash Cam Settings’ button on the center home screen. Once you click this, you will be led to a list of sub-menus, including Memory Card Settings, Camera Settings, Record Settings, Road Safety Settings, and System Settings.

The partition and overwrite functionalities of your Thinkware dash cam are configured using the memory card settings. Here, you can also directly format your micro SD card by tapping the ‘Format’ button.
Memory Partitioning is helpful for specifying what footage types should be prioritized to be stored for longer on the memory card.
This is the menu where you can adjust your video resolution and camera settings. Here, you may increase the video brightness and rotate the rear camera in the camera settings if you unintentionally place it upside down. The brightness can be adjusted independently, but this setting affects the brightness both during the day and at night.
Moreover, if you intend to use parking mode, we recommend setting the parking priority to maximize card space for motion detection and parking incidents. You can also disable overwriting in individual folders, but remember that if these folders fill up, you'll need to format the card to clear them.
Next are the record settings. Again, if you intend to use the parking mode of your Thinkware dash cam, you must enable it here. For example, the Thinkware U3000’s multiple parking modes such as motion and impact detection, Energy Saving mode, and RADAR can be activated in this sub-menu.
You may also change the timing and voltage cutoff parameters from here. The "wintertime battery protection" option raises the cutoff voltage by 0.2 volts in colder months when batteries are weaker. This is only required if you live in a colder climate where temperatures often fall below freezing. Moreover, the 24V cutoff setting is only for commercial vehicle applications and does not affect standard 12V passenger vehicles.
On the same screen, you can also adjust your sensitivity options. The G-sensor sensitivity is split into two modes: continuous and parking.
In the default setting, we recommend lowering the continuous mode level because it is too high and may cause a lot of false alarms. Parking mode parameters can be adjusted or decreased to suit your needs. We don’t recommend lowering it too low because tiny parking bumps should be detected as well.
Now let’s move on to road safety. One of the reasons why we love Thinkware dash cams is because of its ADAS functions and Safety Camera alerts that can be configured in the road safety settings.
Here, you can enable and disable individual functions, as well as control how quickly they activate. To prevent false alerts while driving around town, we like to configure the lane departure warning so that it only activates at highway speeds. The vehicle type selection pertains to your car's height, with "sedan" being the lowest.
