Overview

BlackboxMyCar Add-A-Fuse Kit

Simple Setup Guide

  • The Add-a-Fuse Kit can be used when you are installing with any hardwiring kits for your dash cam. To use the Add-a-Fuse Kit, you will need access to your vehicle's fusebox.
  • If you are using a standard hardwiring kit, then you should always connect the yellow wire to a constant fuse, red wire to an ignition switched/ACC fuse, and black to a ground. Consult our Hardwiring Fusebox guide for more detailed information.
  • For all the tools you need to properly hardwire your dash cam into your vehicle, we would recommend purchasing the Essential BlackboxMyCar Install Package.

For more detailed instructions on how to specifically use the add-a-fuse kit, check out our Add-a-Fuse Setup Guide.

Add-a-Fuse Compatibility Guide

Prior to installation, check with your hardwire installation kit to see how many fuses you will need. If your hardwiring kit has a constant + ACC, then you will need 2 fuses. If it's ACC only, then you will only need 1 fuse. By using add-a-fuses, you will turn one fuse slot in your fusebox into two for a cleaner install and added safety.

Which add-a-fuse is right for my vehicle? That answer is dependent on the vehicle that you drive. To find your answer, you can either consult your vehicle owner's manual, Google the answer, or consult the dealership where you've previously purchased the vehicle.

The options for add-a-fuses include ATO, Mini Fuse, Low-Profile and the Micro 2. All options will include their appropriate fuse. If you are unsure of which fuse option to choose, select the "1 of Each" option to ensure you have one that will work for your vehicle

Micro 3 fuses now available

The Micro 3 add-a-fuse is mainly designed for modern vehicles that use Micro 3 blade fuses in their fuse boxes. Micro 3 fuses are found in some newer Ford/Chrysler models, GM (General Motors) vehicles, along with some European and JDM vehicles.

As they are more niche and unique, they will not currently be included in the "1 of Each" option.

What's Included

Each Add-a-Fuse Kit comes with one (1) fuse, unless stated otherwise.

NOTE: The types of add a fuse that we provide, if selected, are: Low profile, Mini, Micro 2, and ATO

frustrating, fuse broke as soon as I pulled it from the adapter. As context, I was going to install it in an empty slot, however the camera was not turning on, as soon as I pulled the fuse to put the car fuse in the right position and the plastic structure of the fuse did not resist

Great package

Only thing i wish I'd get with it, is different size fuses besides the 20A that came with it.

Low Profile Mini cable wasn't a good fit

When installing on my 5G Outback, had issues with the low profile mini - the plastic insert for the low profile wasn't sized properly in the add-a-fuse. So it didn't fit in the fuse holder. Rather than sanding it down, opted to use the mini add-a-fuse instead.

There was no issues with that work around.

Otherwise, documentation, the system, and installation worked great. Going into this, it was actually the part of the installation whcih I didn't worry about at all. It ended up bering a pain but not a show stopper.
