Transfer VIOFO Dash Cam recordings directly to your phone with Type-C cables

In recent years, we have witnessed how tech has shifted to Type C ports – from smartphones, laptops, and even dash cams! One of the dash cam brands implementing the Type C upgrade is VIOFO, which you can find in their latest flagship models, such as the A229 Pro and A229 Plus series.

This 2024, VIOFO also announced that they will release a new connectivity feature that will simplify the data transfer process from your VIOFO dash camera to your smartphone, with USB Type-C to Type-C cables. In this article, we will dive into this feature’s range of benefits, including superfast downloads and effortless firmware updates.

Type-C to Type-C Connectivity

If you are tired of the hassle of transferring data from your VIOFO dashcam to your iPhone or Android phone, your dark days are over! Fumbling with the internet speed or dealing with complex setups can be a real pain, and this new feature can make your VIOFO user experience more convenient.

Along with the release of the iPhone 15 series, the freshest Samsung Galaxy S24 and their use of the Type-C charging connector, VIOFO also updated its dashcams to include Type-C ports. By simply connecting the Type-C cable, users can now have a seamless connection between their dash cams and smartphones for two significant functions: faster downloads and firmware updates.

Downloading Data from Dash Cam to Smartphone

One of the most notable aspects of the Type-C to Type-C connectivity is its capacity to support faster downloading. The USB 2.0 Type-C to Type-C adapter lets you quickly transfer photos and footage from the VIOFO dashcam's memory card to your compatible smartphone. This means that everything that your dash cam records - from evidence, road incidents, or even travel memories - can all be shared in a matter of seconds, making sure that important data is readily available when needed.

How to Download Footage via Type-C to Type-C

  1. Use a USB 2.0 Type C to Type C data cable. Connect it to the dash cam and your smartphone.
  2. Once connected, launch “Files” on your iPhone or Android.
  3. The VIOFO dash cam’s storage will appear under Locations. Typically, it will be named Untitled for iPhone, and USB for Android. Tap it, and you will see the footage.
  4. Choose a video file you want to download.
  5. Long press the thumbnail and tap Copy. Once done, paste the file to the folder “On My iPhone”. You can also try downloading multiple files at once.

Updating Firmware from Smartphone to Dash Cam

The good news is that the Type-C to Type-C connectivity simplifies not only data transfer but also dashcam firmware updates. Now, you can easily download and update the latest software by simply connecting your Type-C to Type-C cable! No extra equipment or complicated actions are needed so you can maintain your VIOFO dash cams up to date smooth and quick!

How to Update Firmware via Type-C to Type-C

  1. Use a USB 2.0 Type C to Type C data cable and connect your dash cam
  2. Launch “Files” on your iPhone or Android.
  3. The VIOFO dash cam’s storage will appear under Locations. Typically, it will be named Untitled for iPhone, and USB for Android.

Note: Things to Consider Before Using Type-C to Type-C

Dashcam Compatibility

Before you try this, ensure that your VIOFO dashcam model supports Type-C to Type-C data transfer. This feature is available on all VIOFO dashcam models with Type-C power ports, including the A229 Series, the A139 Pro, the A119 Mini 2.

Smartphone Compatibility

You should also check if your smartphone supports this connectivity to avoid compatibility issues. The Type-C to Type-C data transfer method is compatible with the iPhone 15 series and newer versions of Android smartphones. Make sure your smartphone supports an output of 5V2A.

Use Standard USB 2.0 Type-C to Type-C Cable

To ensure optimal performance, use a standard USB 2.0 Type-C to Type-C data cable for the connection.
