VIOFO A139 Pro vs. 70Mai A810 4K UHD Dash Cam Comparison Review

The Sony STARVIS 2 rollout has been a blast, and we are excited to see more and more manufacturers are adding this advanced image technology in new dash cam models. Some of what we know, and what we have proven to be performing really well are the new VIOFO A119 Mini 2, the Thinkware U3000, and the first-ever dash cam equipped with it, the VIOFO A139 Pro 4K dash cam.

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly dash cam with Sony STARVIS 2, the VIOFO selections are recommended. The VIOFO A139 Pro is best for its 4K UHD recording capabilities, plus its up to three-channel configuration system. Now, while a lot of drivers have already experienced the upgrades on this VIOFO, the community is indeed curious about the launch of a new 4K dash cam, also with Sony STARVIS 2, but priced almost half of the A139 Pro – the new 70Mai A810.

In this article, we will dive deep into the features and specifications of the VIOFO A139 Pro and the 70Mai A810 head-on, and find out which among these two budget-friendly 4K dash cams is best for you.

VIOFO A139 Pro vs. 70Mai A810 4K Physical Design

Both the VIOFO A139 Pro and the 70Mai A810 showcase sleek designs that seamlessly blend into your vehicle's interior. However, the VIOFO A139 Pro is more discreet because it’s built with no screen, while the 70Mai A810 is built with a 3-inch screen, just like the older VIOFO models like the A129 and A229. The A139 Pro doesn’t surrender any accessibility without the physical screen, featuring 5 different discrete face buttons on the unit to control key functions, such as triggering manual recording, mic, and wifi.

Regarding the lenses, the VIOFO A139 Pro has a 140° field of view, while the 70Mai A810 edges ahead with a slightly wider 150° – for the front cameras. The A139 Pro’s front lens can also be rotated vertically up to 300° for greater coverage, adapting better in different car models for optimal positioning. Now, for the rear camera, the VIOFO A139 Pro's 170° rear sensor provides better coverage than the 130° offered by the 70Mai A810. Moreover, the A139 Pro also includes a CPL filter that enhances image clarity, a feature not yet available on the 70Mai A810.

While the A139 Pro looks sleek and premium with its black matte finish, the A810 is silver on the left and right sides, sticking out a bit more. On the left side of the camera has a slot for inserting the back camera and the USB-C power supply, as well as the maximum 256GB Micro-SD card. For the A139 Pro, the Micro SD card can support up to 512 GB.

The A139 Pro’s coaxial cable with mini connectors is smaller than the USB cable used by 70Mai, which makes installation more user-friendly. Sized at 2.8mm, the A139 Pro is smaller than VIOFO A129 Pro’s 5mm. This also reduces the electromagnetic interference to other in-car electronic devices such as car multimedia systems which has been an issue in the past for some.

VIOFO A139 Pro vs. 70Mai A810 4K Image Quality and Video Recording Capabilities

The VIOFO A139 Pro and 70Mai A810 deploy the Sony Starvis 2 IMX678 front sensor, which works best for low-light situations. However, the VIOFO A139 Pro's larger 7G lens with an aperture of F1.6 outshines the 70Mai A810's F1.8 4G3P lens in terms of light capture, potentially resulting in clearer footage.

Both the VIOFO A139 Pro and 70Mai A810 have HDR, although the 70Mai also has this in its rear camera. But based on testing, the VIOFO A139 Pro’s rear camera still records better than A810. Regarding coverage, the VIOFO A139 Pro's 4K front + rear 1080P + interior 1080P recording resolution trumps the 70Mai A810's 4K front + 1080P back. That’s an extra camera for peace of mind, though the A139 Pro is also offered in a 2-channel option as well.

Both the VIOFO A139 Pro and 70Mai A810 support higher frame rates in various modes, such as 60fps in 2K mode, enabling smoother video playback. For both models, this will disable HDR.

VIOFO A139 Pro

70Mai A810

VIOFO A139 Pro vs. 70Mai A810 4K Parking Mode

In parking mode, both cameras offer advanced features like auto event detection and time-lapse, but the VIOFO A139 Pro takes the lead with its 15-second buffered parking mode, compared to the 70Mai A810's AI Parking Mode’s 2-second buffer. This extra time could be crucial in capturing events leading up to an incident, giving you a full picture of what happened before the incident.

Both dash cams offer seperate hardwire kits for a continuous power supply, but the VIOFO A139 Pro provides more flexibility with selectable cutoff voltage options. This is ideal to fine-tune the dash cam, and set a proper cut-off that fits best with your vehicle, the 70Mai on the other hand has a voltage cut-off pre-set to 11.4V. This is too low in our opinion, as we recommend a cut-off of 12V, and runs the risk of draining and damaging different car batteries, depending on the vehicle.

Additionally, the Viofo model employs a supercapacitor. This durable power source performs better in extreme temperatures compared to the lithium-ion battery used in the 70mai A810, which is prone to overheating. We firmly recommend supercapacitors in dash cams, especially for managing heat. If you’re curious for more info, check out our Supercapacitor vs Lithium Ion article here.

VIOFO A139 Pro

70Mai A810

VIOFO A139 Pro vs. 70Mai A810 4K Features

The VIOFO A139 Pro introduces various advanced features that set it apart. Its 3-channel recording capability, including an interior camera, is a game-changer for ride-sharing or taxi drivers. Including 5GHz Wi-Fi connectivity is another advantage, offering faster data transfer and smoother app interaction compared to the 70Mai A810's 2.4GHz-only Wi-Fi.

However, it’s worth noting that 70Mai has ADAS features including Pedestrian/Bikers Alert, Lane Departure Alert, Front Collision Alert and Moving Traffic Alert, which is not present in the A139 Pro.

But one more thing that VIOFO added to the A139 Pro dash cam is the Voice Notification system. This new feature notifies you of events in parking mode when you return to the vehicle, and the current state of the camera. Say goodbye to annoying beeping sounds, and listen to a clear, concise voice instead! Available in multiple languages, this feature allows you to remain focused on the road while being in the know during your drive.

70Mai A810

VIOFO A139 Pro vs. 70Mai A810 4K Pricing

While both cameras offer a range of advanced features, the VIOFO A139 Pro's additional functionalities and enhanced specifications come at a slightly higher price point at a starting price of $299.99 USD for the 2-channel and $369.99 USD, compared to the 70Mai A810’s $179.98 price. However, the improved coverage, video quality, and added features justify the price difference for those seeking a premium dash cam experience.

Verdict: Which is Better? VIOFO A139 Pro or 70Mai A810?

For us, the better pick is still the VIOFO A139 Pro. With its superior video quality, up to 3-channel coverage, advanced parking mode features, and an array of unique functionalities, it outshines the 70Mai A810. While the 70Mai A810 is a commendable dash cam for its price and video quality, the VIOFO A139 Pro's blend of cutting-edge technology and features like dual-band Wi-Fi, supercapacitors, built-in GPS, and Voice Notifications are an exceptional choice for individuals prioritizing top-tier performance in the long run.
